Russia accuses Ukraine of drone attack on Putin’s secret residence, releases video as proof
Moscow: Russia has accused Ukraine of carrying out a drone attack on the secret residence of President Vladimir Putin, escalating tensions amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.
The Russian government has released videos claiming to show evidence of the alleged attack and has vowed retaliation, warning of a major counter-operation in the near future.
According to Russian officials, the Ministry of Defence released footage as proof of the drone strike on Putin’s residence. One of the videos shows a damaged drone lying in a snow-covered forest area, which Russia claims fell after being neutralised by its air defence systems. Another video allegedly captures visuals related to the drone attack itself.
The Russian military has strongly warned Ukraine of consequences, stating that it will “avenge the attack” on the Russian president’s residence. In a sharply worded statement, Russian forces also claimed that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky would be “forced to spend his lifetime in a bunker,” hinting at preparations for a large-scale military operation.
Russia has alleged that Ukraine attempted to carry out the attack using as many as 91 drones, all of which were intercepted and destroyed by Russian air defence systems. However, Ukraine has categorically denied these claims, calling them “completely false” and part of a propaganda campaign.
This has led to a fresh round of intense verbal confrontation between the two countries. Reacting to the video released by Russia, the Ukrainian military accused Moscow of spreading “blatant lies.”
Ukrainian officials claimed that following recent diplomatic discussions involving former US President Donald Trump and President Volodymyr Zelensky in Florida, Russia is deliberately circulating false narratives about a drone attack on Putin’s residence to justify further military escalation.
The European Union has also raised objections to Russia’s claims and the release of the video. EU officials accused Moscow of having no real intention of agreeing to a ceasefire and alleged that Russia is using such incidents as a pretext to prolong the war. They warned that disinformation could derail ongoing diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep concern over reports of a drone attack targeting the Russian President’s residence. In a statement, the Prime Minister said he was “deeply worried” by the developments and stressed that diplomatic efforts currently underway offer the most viable path to ending the conflict and achieving peace.
He urged all concerned parties to focus on dialogue and avoid actions that could weaken peace initiatives. The alleged drone attack and the sharp reactions that followed underline the fragile and volatile nature of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, even as global leaders continue to push for diplomatic solutions.
