Dhaka student leader Osman Hadi murder: Dubai-based suspect denies involvement
New Delhi: A key suspect in the high-profile murder of Bangladeshi student leader Osman Hadi has released a video message from Dubai, claiming he had no role in the killing. Faisal Karim Masood, one of the two suspects reportedly fleeing Bangladesh after the December 12 attack on Hadi, insisted he is being wrongly implicated.
Bangladeshi authorities had earlier alleged that Masood and another suspect, Alangeer Sheikh, escaped the country via the Halu Ghat border into India. However, Indian security officials, along with Meghalaya police and border security forces, rejected these claims, stating that neither suspect had entered India.
In his video shared online, Masood clarified that he is currently in Dubai and has no connection to Hadi’s murder. He emphasized that his interactions with Hadi were strictly professional, related to business, and not linked to any criminal activity. “I did not kill Hadi. My family and I are being wrongly dragged into this case. I came to Dubai to protect myself,” Masood stated.
Masood further claimed that Hadi had ties with the Jamaat organization in Bangladesh and that the murder might have been orchestrated by elements within the group.
He alleged that the accusations against him were fabricated to serve political motives, and that he was pressured into making financial contributions for Hadi’s programs while seeking business opportunities.
According to Masood, he had paid Hadi 500,000 Bangladeshi Taka as part of these professional interactions, which were later misrepresented as criminal involvement.
“I visited Hadi’s office purely for professional reasons as an entrepreneur and IT company owner. My interactions were related to employment opportunities, and I fulfilled financial requests as part of legitimate business dealings. I was never on the motorcycle or present at the crime scene,” he added.
Masood accused the Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami organization of orchestrating the murder, saying, “This was an act carried out by Jamaat. My family is suffering unjustly. The allegations against me are deliberate and extremely distressing.”
The video statement has fueled discussions online and internationally, raising questions over the accuracy of initial allegations and the cross-border implications of the investigation. Masood’s assertion highlights ongoing tensions and the politicization surrounding the murder of Osman Hadi, which had sparked widespread protests and anti-India sentiment in Bangladesh.
