Poco F9 Ultra Tipped to Get Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Chipset

Poco is getting ready to introduce its new F9 smartphone lineup internationally. The series is expected to include the Poco F9 Pro and Poco F9 Ultra, with the global launch scheduled for September 1.

The upcoming phones are believed to be based on the Redmi K100 series introduced in China. They are also expected to succeed the Poco F8 Pro and Poco F8 Ultra from the previous generation.

Poco has started revealing some details ahead of the launch, giving buyers an early idea of what to expect from the new flagship range.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 Chipsets
Performance is expected to be a major focus of the new series. Poco has confirmed through a post on X that the F9 lineup will use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 series processors.

The Poco F9 Ultra is expected to feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the F9 Pro could use the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V. Both chipsets are positioned toward the high end, suggesting that performance will be one of the key selling points of the phones.

Distinctive Colours and Design
Poco is also bringing a different visual identity to the two models. The F9 Ultra is expected to be offered in Dark Cherry with a glass fibre finish, while the F9 Pro could be available in Aurora Green.

The F9 Pro is also tipped to feature a full panel luminous design. The panel is said to absorb sunlight or indoor light and produce a soft, even glow when the surroundings become dark. This could give the phone a more distinctive appearance compared with conventional smartphone finishes.

Certification Listings Reveal Connectivity
Both smartphones have reportedly appeared in the IMEI database. The Poco F9 Pro is listed with model number 2607APCA5G, while the F9 Ultra carries model number 26077PC53G.

The same model numbers have also reportedly appeared on Singapore’s IMDA certification platform. Connectivity options are expected to include 5G, Bluetooth, Wi Fi and NFC.

What to Expect From the F9 Ultra
The previous generation Poco F8 Ultra gives some context for the direction of the new flagship. It featured a 6.9 inch OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 3,500 nits peak brightness.

The F8 Ultra also used a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and ran Android 16 based HyperOS 3. Its camera system included a 50 megapixel main sensor, a 50 megapixel periscope telephoto camera and a 50 megapixel ultrawide camera. A 32 megapixel front camera handled selfies and video calls.

The device was powered by a 6,500mAh battery with support for 100W HyperCharge wired charging and included an in display fingerprint sensor.

For now, Poco has confirmed the launch timing and chipset family, while several other F9 Pro and F9 Ultra specifications remain based on reported information. More details should become clear when the new series officially arrives on September 1.
