Nothing OS 5.0 Update Set to Bring Major Changes to Supported Phones

Nothing is preparing for its next major software release, and smartphone owners will not have to wait much longer for details. The company has confirmed that Nothing OS 5.0 will be officially introduced on August 25 for selected devices.

The announcement event is scheduled for 11:00 AM BST, which is 3:30 PM in India. Nothing is expected to use the event to reveal its rollout plans, major software changes and some of the new features coming with the update.

The timing is also interesting. Nothing OS 4.0 was announced on September 16 last year, meaning the company is moving ahead with its new software version several weeks earlier this time. That has raised expectations that the stable rollout could also begin sooner than before.

A complete stable release schedule has not been confirmed yet. However, an open beta could arrive shortly after the announcement, following a similar approach to the previous Nothing OS release. The stable version may then reach eligible devices later in the year.

For users wondering whether their phone is included, the expected list is fairly broad. The Nothing Phone 4b, Phone 4a, Phone 4a Pro, Phone 3, Phone 3a, Phone 3a Lite and Phone 3a Pro are among the models expected to receive Nothing OS 5.0.

The Phone 2a and Phone 2a Plus are also on the list, along with the CMF Phone 2 Pro. This means owners of several recent Nothing and CMF devices could see a substantial software refresh once the rollout begins.

Not every older model will make the jump, though. The original Nothing Phone 1, Nothing Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1 are reportedly excluded from the Nothing OS 5.0 update. These phones have already received the major Android OS updates promised by the company when they were launched.

Nothing has yet revealed every feature coming with the new software. The August 25 event should provide a clearer picture of what users can expect, including the rollout timeline and the biggest changes planned for supported devices.

For existing Nothing users, the announcement is worth watching because the company appears to be starting its next software cycle earlier than last year. The exact stable release date, however, will remain the key detail for users waiting to install the update.
