iPhone Users Show Strong Loyalty as Android Users Switch More Frequently, New Report Finds
A 2026 survey reveals rising brand loyalty among iPhone users while Android users continue to switch platforms more often, highlighting ecosystem strength and pricing as key factors shaping smartphone decisions

A new global trend in smartphone usage is drawing attention as user behavior continues to shift between major platforms. A report by SellCell suggests that loyalty among iPhone users has reached new highs, while Android users remain more open to switching devices when upgrading.
The findings show a clear difference in how users perceive their mobile ecosystems. While Android continues to dominate in global market share, Apple users appear more committed to staying within the brand’s environment, largely due to integrated services and long term familiarity.
Interestingly, the survey reveals that 96.4 percent of iPhone users plan to stick with iPhone for their next upgrade. Only a small portion, around 3.6 percent, expressed interest in switching to Android. This marks a steady rise in loyalty compared to previous years, reflecting a growing sense of satisfaction among Apple users.
Looking back at earlier data, iPhone loyalty stood at 91.9 percent in 2021 and 90.5 percent in 2019. The consistent upward trend suggests that Apple’s ecosystem strategy is continuing to strengthen user retention over time.
On the other side, Android users show comparatively lower loyalty levels. The report estimates Android loyalty at around 86.4 percent, indicating that a noticeable portion of users consider switching to competing platforms during upgrade cycles. In fact, Android users are significantly more likely to move to iPhone than the reverse.
A major factor behind iPhone retention appears to be user preference for the operating system itself. About 60.8 percent of respondents said they prefer iOS, while 17.4 percent highlighted their investment in Apple’s ecosystem as a key reason to stay. Services like iMessage, FaceTime, iCloud, and seamless integration with devices such as AirPods and Apple Watch continue to play an important role.
However, the report also points out that price remains a concern for some users. The high cost of iPhones does influence a segment of users to consider switching to Android, especially in markets where affordability is a deciding factor.
Another interesting insight comes from the Android ecosystem itself. Brands like Samsung have also seen an improvement in customer loyalty, rising from 74 percent in 2021 to 90.1 percent in 2026. This indicates that competition in the smartphone market is becoming more stable, with leading brands working harder to retain their users.
Overall, the report highlights a clear divide in user behavior. While Apple continues to build a tightly connected ecosystem that keeps users engaged, Android manufacturers are also strengthening their retention strategies. The result is a more competitive market where loyalty is increasingly shaped by experience, pricing, and ecosystem value.
