HMD Touch AI Global Launch Could Bring Lumia Inspired Design and 1950mAh Battery

HMD is preparing to expand its compact Touch AI phone beyond China, bringing a touch display, 4G connectivity, dual SIM support and feature phone capabilities.

HMD is reportedly preparing to introduce its Touch AI phone in international markets after initially presenting the device in China. The compact handset combines the familiar simplicity of a feature phone with a touchscreen interface and modern connectivity features.

The upcoming device has attracted attention mainly because of its unusual design. Its appearance is reminiscent of the older Nokia Lumia series, with a compact body and a touchscreen focused user experience. Unlike conventional smartphones, the HMD Touch AI is positioned between a traditional feature phone and an entry level smart device.

The phone is expected to retain a 3.2 inch touch display and a 1950mAh battery. It also supports dual SIM functionality and 4G connectivity, making it suitable for users who want basic smartphone features without carrying a large handset.

The international launch details have not been officially confirmed by HMD yet. The device was introduced in the Chinese market in July, and a recent leak on X has suggested that the company could soon bring it to markets outside China. Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand are among the markets where the device is reportedly expected to appear.

If the leaked information is accurate, HMD could bundle additional accessories with the international version. The package may include an 8GB microSD card, a protective case and a screen protector. Such additions could make the phone more convenient for buyers who want a ready to use device without purchasing basic accessories separately.

The Touch AI is expected to offer some features that are not available on the HMD Touch 4G sold in India. One of the major additions could be support for mobile payments and a QR code scanner. These features would give the compact handset a more modern utility while maintaining its feature phone oriented design.

Colour choices could also be expanded for international customers. The HMD Touch 4G is available in Cyan and Dark Blue, while the Touch AI could reportedly arrive in additional shades such as White and Gold. The broader colour selection could help HMD position the device as a lifestyle oriented compact phone rather than simply an entry level handset.

The Chinese version of the HMD Touch AI is priced at 469 yuan, which converts to approximately Rs 6500 based on the figures provided. However, the international price could be different depending on taxes, distribution costs, market positioning and bundled accessories. Therefore, the Chinese price should not be treated as the confirmed price for countries such as India.

The Touch AI also needs to be distinguished from the HMD Touch 4G, which was launched in India in October 2025. The earlier model carries a 3.2 inch QVGA touchscreen and is powered by the Unisoc T127 processor. It comes with 64MB of RAM and 128MB of internal storage, with support for expansion through a microSD card up to 32GB.

The HMD Touch 4G runs on an RTOS based touch operating system rather than a conventional Android smartphone platform. This approach allows the phone to focus on basic communication and entertainment functions while keeping the hardware requirements relatively modest.

Battery life is another important part of the Touch series. The HMD Touch 4G features a 1950mAh battery that can reportedly provide up to 30 hours of usage on a single charge, depending on usage conditions. The same battery capacity is expected to be present in the Touch AI, although actual battery performance could vary depending on the software and additional features offered by the newer model.

Photography remains basic on the existing Touch 4G. It has a 2 megapixel rear camera with a flash and a 0.3 megapixel VGA front camera. The device is designed more for essential photography and communication than for advanced smartphone photography.

The existing model also includes entertainment features such as an FM radio with wired and wireless support and an MP3 player. It carries an IP52 rating, providing protection against limited dust exposure and water splashes. These features underline the phones focus on practical everyday use rather than high end smartphone functionality.

The Touch AI name suggests that HMD is attempting to add more software based features to this compact category. If mobile payments, QR scanning and other smart functions are included, the device could offer a more versatile experience than traditional feature phones while retaining their simple form factor.

The potential global launch also reflects a growing interest in smaller and simpler mobile devices. While large smartphones dominate the mainstream market, some consumers continue to prefer compact phones for calling, messaging, basic internet access and occasional entertainment. A touchscreen feature phone can appeal to this audience by offering some modern conveniences without the complexity of a conventional smartphone.

For HMD, the Touch AI could also serve as a way to differentiate its feature phone portfolio. The Lumia inspired styling may attract customers who remember the distinctive design language associated with older Nokia devices, while the touchscreen and 4G connectivity make the handset more relevant to current network requirements.

At present, HMD has not confirmed the complete international launch schedule or final specifications for every market. Buyers should therefore wait for official announcements before making purchasing decisions. Details such as local pricing, storage configuration, software features, colour options and bundled accessories may vary between countries.

If the reported launch goes ahead, the HMD Touch AI could occupy an interesting space in the market. It would not directly compete with full sized Android smartphones, but instead target users looking for a compact device that offers touchscreen controls, 4G connectivity and selected smart features.

With its 3.2 inch touchscreen, 1950mAh battery, dual SIM support and compact Lumia inspired design, the HMD Touch AI is shaping up to be an unusual addition to the feature phone segment. Its success will likely depend on pricing and how much additional functionality HMD brings to the international version.
