Bhadravati Food Poisoning Suspected After Feast Leaves Special School Students Ill

A suspected food poisoning incident in Bhadravati of Shivamogga district has raised concern after more than 15 students from a residential school for children with hearing and speech disabilities reportedly became ill after consuming food served at a family ceremony. Several members of the public who ate the same meal also developed similar symptoms.

The affected students were taken to the Bhadravati Taluk Government Hospital after they began suffering from vomiting and diarrhoea. Medical staff provided immediate treatment and kept the children under observation. According to the information available, their condition is currently stable and there have been no reports of a life threatening situation.

The incident was reported from the Velur Shed area of Bhadravati taluk, where a family had organised a ceremony following a death in the family. Food was prepared for people attending the programme, and students from the Taranga residential school in New Town were among those who consumed the meal.

The students reportedly developed health problems within a few hours of eating the food. Vomiting and diarrhoea were among the symptoms observed. The incident was not limited to the school students. Around seven to eight other people who had consumed the same food also reportedly complained of illness.

The simultaneous illness of several people who had eaten food from the same programme has led authorities to examine the possibility of contamination. However, the exact reason for the illness will be known only after laboratory testing of the food samples collected from the location.

The affected children were brought to the taluk hospital without delay. Doctors assessed their condition and provided treatment in the emergency care unit. As the students have special needs, medical personnel are expected to continue monitoring them closely for the next few days.

At present, there has been no reported need to shift the affected children to Shivamogga district hospital. The medical team is continuing treatment locally while watching for any further symptoms or complications.
