Google Play Store and Apple Store Bans 54 Chinese App, Here is complete list

According to top sources in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Centre has banned 54 Chinese apps that “pose a threat to India’s security”. Google Play Store and Apple Store Bans 54 Chinese App in India. Including Garena’s popular battle royale game Free Fire. Since June 2020, the government has banned around 224 Chinese smartphone apps, including popular applications like TikTok, Shareit, WeChat, Helo, Likee, UC News, Bigo Live, UC Browser, ES File Explorer, and Mi Community.

The banned apps include Beauty Camera: Sweet Selfie HD, Beauty Camera – Selfie Camera, Equalizer & Bass Booster, CamCard for SalesForce Ent, Isoland 2: Ashes of Time Lite, Viva Video Editor, Tencent Xriver, Onmyoji Chess, Onmyoji Arena, AppLock and Dual Space Lite. According to ministry sources, the list of 54 apps includes some of those that been had been banned by the Indian government earlier too but had rebranded themselves and relaunched under new names. Upon official confirmation and after establishing the country of origin, orders have once again been issued to ban the apps.

Several of these apps have been known to either run malicious software or directly send user information to China-based data centres without user consent, ministry sources said. While the apps are being taken down from all app stores, some of them may still continue to function on devices on which they have already been downloaded. The MeitY is likely to release a full list of the banned apps soon to help users identify them. Garena’s popular battle royale game Free Fire is arguably the most popular app among the fresh batch, with over 184,700 ratings on App Store and over 105,501,450 on Google Play.

To bring the ban into force, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has ordered Google and Apple to block access to the apps.
