Karnataka recorded 1,500 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours

The state of Karnataka on Tuesday reported 1,405 new cases of Covid-19 and 26 fatalities, taking the tally to 39,29,642 and death toll to 39,691. Karnataka recorded 1,500 new Covid-19 cases in 24 hours. The official health bulletin confirmed there were 5,762 discharges, pushing the total number of recoveries to 38,63,085, a Health bulletin said. 765 new Covid cases were detected in Bengaluru Urban that saw 2,548 people being discharged and 6 virus-related deaths.

The total number of active cases across the state is now 26,832. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 1.91%, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 1.85 per cent. Of the 26 deaths, six are from Bengaluru Urban; Dakshina Kannada (4), Ballari (3), Dharwad, Hassan and Udupi (2), followed by others. After Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru recorded the second highest number of cases at 66, followed by Belagavi and Udupi (50), Tumakuru (48) and Dakshina Kannada (47) among others.

Bengaluru Urban district now has a total of 17,72,387 cases, Mysuru 2,28,727 and Tumakuru 1,59,294. Cumulatively, a total of 6,36,06,305 crore samples have been tested, of which 73,286 were on Tuesday alone. Education Minister Nagesh said in a statement after meeting with CM Basavaraja Bommai that the college will be started by the high court order from Wednesday. PU, Degree College will be started from Wednesday. Our parents are intent on continuing education.

Karnataka Education Minister BC Nagesh said on Sunday that Colleges will open from this week, The row on hijab that initially began as a protest by six students has rapidly snowballed into a major crisis in Karnataka, threatening the law-and-order situation. The international community too has raised concerns on the issue which has been discussed in the Parliament as well. B C Nagesh, who was recently named Karnataka’s minister for education, is in the thick of things surrounding the hijab row.

As the issue snowballed into a major controversy, the government declared three days holidays on last Tuesday for educational institutions across the state, even as voices across the country came in for and against the hijab issue. Karnataka Government announced 3 days holiday for 8 to degree classes. In the wake of the hijab controversy, Karnataka Govt announced holiday for colleges till Feb 16.

The Higher Education Department, All Colleges and Technical Education Departments have given leave continue till February 16, Minister of Higher Education Dr. C.N. Ashwath Narayan said. In a press release on Friday, he said the department applies to all universities, government, aided and unaided first-class colleges, engineering and diploma colleges.Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said on Thursday All high schools will reopen in Karnataka from Monday Feb 14.
