Bharti Airtel Crosses 650 Million Customers, Becomes Second Largest Telecom Company Globally

Bharti Airtel has reached a major milestone by surpassing 65 crore mobile subscribers, making it the second largest telecom company in the world. The achievement underscores Airtel’s growing presence in India and across 14 African countries, where it serves nearly 17.9 crore customers.
In India, Airtel has more than 36.8 crore mobile subscribers, while its high-speed internet services are now available in over 1.3 crore homes. The company also provides digital television services to 1.5 crore households, expanding its reach beyond mobile connectivity into home entertainment.
Airtel’s enterprise division, Airtel Business, continues to grow by offering mission-critical infrastructure services including cybersecurity, cloud computing, IoT, and SD-WAN solutions. The company recently announced plans to expand into non-banking financial services, highlighting its strategy to diversify beyond traditional telecom offerings.
Gopal Vittal, the company’s executive vice-chairman, said the milestone reflects Airtel’s commitment to innovation, reliability, and delivering meaningful experiences to its customers. He emphasized the company’s focus on building trust and value in every customer interaction while continuing to enhance service quality.
The company also leads in next-generation technology deployment, being the first in India to launch 5G Plus services. According to GSM Intelligence, Airtel now holds the second-largest mobile subscriber base globally, solidifying its position as a telecom powerhouse.
