The health department has instructed officials to intensify surveillance in Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts that share the border with Kerala.

2 deaths due to infection in Kozikode district of Kerala state, 4 cases are active. Keeping in view the reports of Nipah cases, surveillance activities need to be intensified in the bordering districts of Kerala State to prevent further spread of the infection,” the ministry said in a circular.

The department has issued guidelines to health authorities across the state to prevent the spread of infection and carry out surveillance activities.

It said to set up check posts for fever surveillance especially in the border districts.

The health department said that the authorities should work to create awareness among the public about the disease and avoid unnecessary fear.

It has been suggested that primary health center staff should be trained.

It said that at least two beds should be reserved in district hospitals for the quarantine of suspected Nipah patients.

The health department has advised the public and health personnel not to travel unnecessarily to Kerala.

High alert in Dakshina Kannada district

An alert was sounded in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday after Nipah cases were confirmed in Kerala.

Health officials have instructed the local police to open check posts at the border. The district administration has taken other precautionary measures to prevent the spread of the virus.
