KSRTC launch Fast Electric Bus from Bhatkal, Manipal, Kasargod to Mangaluru Airport

KSRTC will run electric buses from Kasaragod, Bhatkal and Manipal to Mangaluru International Airport. A Volvo bus was introduced earlier, but it was discontinued due to lack of passengers. A total of four electric buses will ply on these routes.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) Mangaluru division will get 45 electric buses, of which four buses will operate to the international airport. Others are being pressed into service on routes like Dharmasthala, Udupi, Kasaragod, Kundapur and Bhatkal.

Airlines will share electric bus timings etc later, all other details passenger can visit website. It is reported that KSRTC officials are in talks with airlines officials in this regard. KSRTC’s Mangaluru division will get 45 electric buses, of which four buses will operate to the international airport.

Others are being pressed into service on routes like Dharmasthala, Udupi, Kasaragod, Kundapur and Bhatkal. EV charging points will be available at Mangaluru, Udupi, Kundapur and Dharmasthala. Once charged, the buses can travel up to 200 km and a full charge takes about four hours. So KSRTC officials say that this facility cannot be extended to remote areas.

Apart from this, the Mangaluru section will also get eight new design palanquin buses to ply between the city and Bangalore. But new express buses are not sanctioned. A local media reported that nine new buses have arrived for the Puttur division.

A proposal has been submitted to the higher authorities to deploy new and additional buses on other 57 routes. It requires a workforce of 198 people including drivers, conductors and technicians. The report mentioned that if the proposal is approved, buses will ply from Mangaluru to Karkala, Moodbidire and North Karnataka districts.
