Mostly the vehicles coming from Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu to Sabarimala for Ayyappa’s darshan are decorated with flowers and banana plants. The Kerala High Court has banned it and issued an order.

The court directed that action be taken against the vehicles as applicable to the buses of the government-run Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC). The court directed that violators should be penalized and the directions of the previous order should be strictly followed. The court said that coming with decorated vehicles is a security risk. Generally, Ayyappa devotees decorate vehicles with iru mudikatta.

The High Court has pointed out that vehicles should not be decorated with flowers and leaves and this is against the Motor Vehicle Rules. Also, the court directed to take action against the pilgrim vehicles that come with the government board apart from Kerala, the KSRTC buses operating the Sabarimala services from different parts of the state are also decorated in this way and the High Court strictly said that no vehicle should have such decoration.

Preparation meeting for Mandala Mahotsav:

Meanwhile, a high-level meeting will be held to review the issues related to this year’s Sabarimala Mandal and Makara Mahotsav. Kerala CM Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Mujarai Minister of State K. Radhakrishnan and others will attend. Sabarimala gates will be opened on November 17 for Mandala Mahotsava.

On this occasion, there will be a discussion about the arrangements to be made at Sabarimala and the duties to be performed by various departments for the Mandal and Makara Mahotsav, basic facilities and arrangements for the pilgrims.

During the last mandala Makara Jyoti season, action was taken against the vehicles decorated with flowers to cover the front glass of the vehicles. The court also considered the information provided by various departments regarding the preparation of Sabarimala. At the same time, KSRTC informed that only vehicles less than twelve years old will be used for Sabarimala service and suggested that the special commissioner submit a report. The water authority also said that it will give a report clarifying measures for road safety and water supply.
