Karnataka Vehicle Scrapping Policy : stopped old vehicle registration in state

The central government has already implemented a vehicle scrapping policy for old vehicles. Many states of the country have already implemented this rule. Now Karnataka government has issued a notification to implement scrap policy in Karnataka. Karnataka Vehicle Scrapping Policy: stopped old vehicle registration in state.

In this regard, the Under Secretary to the Government of the Transport Department has issued a notification. The Motor Vehicle (Registration and Movement of Vehicles) Rules 2021 has been notified by the Central Government. This rule has been ordered to be implemented in Karnataka as well from today.

Similarly, the central government had implemented a new vehicle scrapping policy with effect from April 1 last, which aims to remove old vehicles from the road in order to reduce pollution and accidents. Under the scrapping policy, vehicle owners will be able to scrap their after 15 years of registration. However, in Delhi, registration expires after 10 years for diesel and 15 years for petrol vehicles.

Although you cannot re-register old vehicles in Delhi, you can apply for re-registration of old vehicles in other parts of India. But the vehicle has to undergo fitness test through automated centers designated by the government. Also, re-registration fee is 8 times higher than new vehicle registration.
