The IMD has issued a warning of “extensive” rainfall in almost all districts of Karnataka, while a red alert has been declared in the Hubballi region of Dharwad district. It said that heavy rains hit the region early on June 12, causing severe flooding in Hanashi village and other parts.

In the wake of the red alert issued by the Meteorological Department, Dharwad Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu has declared a one-day holiday for all Anganwadis, primary schools, high schools, and PU and degree colleges today (June 12).

IMD forecasts very heavy rainfall in these districts:

The Meteorological Department has forecast widespread rainfall in coastal and northern interior Karnataka until June 17. Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada and Udupi districts (Coastal Karnataka) IMD “will experience heavy rainfall with sustained winds gusting to 30 to 40 kilometres (km) per hour”. “This is likely to happen at some places and there is a possibility of very heavy rainfall at one or two places,” the forecast said.

In Belgaum, Dharwad and Gadag districts (North Interior Karnataka) “Heavy rainfall with wind speed reaching 50 to 60 kmph is likely at some places and very heavy rainfall with sustained winds is likely at one or two places”. “Fairly widespread” rainfall is forecast in the southern interior of Karnataka till June 14, with “widespread” rainfall likely for the next three days.

In Shimoga, Chikkamagaluru and Kodagu districts (South Interior Karnataka) “Heavy rainfall with sustained winds gusting to 50-60 kmph is likely.” “It is likely to happen at some places and very heavy rainfall with sustained winds at the same speed is likely at one or two places.”

In Koppal, Haveri, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, Kalaburgi and Raichur districts “Heavy rainfall with wind speed reaching 40 to 50 kmph is likely at one or two places”. In Bidar and Yadgir districts – “Moderate rainfall is likely at most places with sustained winds gusting to 40-50 kmph,” the IMD said.

Heavy rainfall with sustained winds (40-50 kmph) is likely at one or two places in Bellary, Bengaluru (Rural), Bengaluru (Urban), Chikkaballapur, Mandya, Ramanagara, Tumkur, Mysore, Davangere, Hassan and Vijayanagar districts.
