Delhi Capitals owner reveals captain name for IPL 2024

Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has made a remarkable recovery since his accident in December 2022. Although the prospect of international cricket is still a long way off, Pant is all set to participate in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season as part of Delhi Capitals. Although he will not take the wicket-keeping responsibility for the team, the 26-year-old is expected to contribute as a pure batsman. Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal has officially confirmed Pant as the captain for the upcoming season, expressing confidence in his leadership ability. Rishabh Pant started batting, running and wicket keeping after recovery.

He is likely to be fully fit for the IPL 2024. I expect Rishabh to play IPL and he will lead from the first match. “For the first seven matches, we are going to play him only as a batsman and depending on how his body reacts, we will take a call for the rest of the IPL,” Jindal told ESPNcricinfo. Pant’s return to wicket-keeping is a work in progress as his fitness level currently does not allow him to keep wickets for the full 20 overs while batting.

As a result, the team’s strategy is to use him exclusively as a batsman in the opening seven matches of the IPL season. Depending on his physical response during this period, further decisions will be made about his role for the rest of the tournament. Notably, there are no plans to appoint David Warner as captain for another season.

Parth Jindal provided an update on the fitness of South African pacer Anrich Nortje, assuring that he will be ready for the opening match after recovering from his fitness concerns. Nortje is currently bowling at 80% intensity, planning to increase it to 100% in the coming week. Optimistic about the balance of the team with Pant’s return, Jindal named England’s Harry Brook at no. 6 praised for his potential role.

He highlighted the positive development of another key player for Delhi Capitals, Mitchell Marsh, who has assumed the role of Australia’s T20I captain.
