RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell out from IPL 2024

RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell did not play the match as he has decided to temporarily withdraw from IPL 2024.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) fans must have missed Glenn Maxwell during the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 15 as RCB all-rounder Glenn Maxwell did not play the match as he has decided to temporarily withdraw from IPL 2024.

His decision follows a challenging start to the current season where he has struggled with form, managing just 32 runs in six matches at an average of 5.33. There was earlier speculation about him suffering from a thumb injury. However, the RCB all-rounder clarified that his decision was based on the need for mental and physical rest rather than any injury.

“I’ve been in this situation before where you can keep playing and get yourself deeper into the hole. I think it’s a really good time to give myself a mental and physical break, to get my body right,” Maxwell was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo. “If I’m going to come in during the tournament, hopefully I can get back into a really solid mental and physical space where I can still make an impact,” he said.

He explained that by continuing to play in such a situation, his performance may decline further. Maxwell has discussed the situation with captain Faf du Plessis and the coaching staff and suggested that it might help the team to try out other players.

RCB tried Will Jacks instead of Maxwell against Hyderabad. In fact, he was asked to bat at number 3. While the Jacks (7 off 4 balls) started well, he was run out unluckily as Faf’s straight drive hit the fingers of bowler Jaidev Unadkat and hit the stumps at the non-striker’s end.
