Asia Cup 2023 will start from August 30: KL Rahul not play

The Asia Cup 2023 is scheduled to be held in Pakistan and Sri Lanka from 30 August to 17 September 2023. The tournament will be a 50-over ODI tournament, with all matches played at international standard venues. India and Pakistan will face off on September 2 in Pallekele in a Group A match.

The Asia Cup 2023 will commence in Multan with an opening match between Pakistan and Nepal. The tournament will feature six teams split into two groups: Group A includes Pakistan, India, and Nepal, while Group B comprises Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Sri Lanka.

The matches will be played in a fifty-over format, and the hosting responsibilities are divided between Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Pakistan will host four matches at two venues, and the remaining games will take place in Sri Lanka. The biggest challenge for Team India is to select the 11 players who are currently playing in the 17-member squad.

Ajit Agarkar, chairman of the selection committee, said that KL Rahul is likely to miss the first few matches as he is not fully fit. Captain Rohit Sharma will be the opener. If KL Rahul does not fit, Ishan Kishan will play as the opener.

In this case, Virat Kohli has to sacrifice his third order to Shubman Gill. Kohli will play at number four and will be coming in later. While Shreyas Iyer will play at number five, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja will be the all-rounders. Shardul Thakur will also be there. Kuldeep Yadav Yadav spin option Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Siraj are the key pacers.
