Karnataka Election Results: Big lose to CT Ravi, Ramulu, K Sudhakar and Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri

The Chikmagaluru constituency is expected to witness a fierce competition between the two front runners Congress and BJP. CT Ravi is a four-time legislator from the Chikmagalur Constituency who is contesting against Janata Dal Secular’s Thimmashetty and Congress’s HD Thammaiah in the Karnataka Assembly Polls 2023.

The Congress has put forward a strong candidate in H D Thammaiah, who was previously associated with the BJP as an aide to C T Ravi before switching to the Congress. If elected to power, Thammaiah would be the second Lingayat MLA to get elected from Chikmagalur after C M S Shastri in 1967.

Historically, the Chikmagalur constituency has been a stronghold of the Congress party as former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi even contested and won the 1978 Lok Sabha election from this constituency. The trend continued in Assembly elections until 2004, when the BJP began winning.

In 2018, BJP’s CT Ravi won the Chikmagalur Assembly Election by defeating Congress’s Shankar BL with a margin of 26,314 votes. Ravi has been leading ever since, however, the stakes are high as people wait with bated breath to see if the Opposition can turn the tables in 2023.

Congress leader HD Thammiah is leading by a margin of 1,916 votes in the Chikmagalur constituency. After six rounds of counting, Thammiah has garnered 27,379 votes compared to BJP leader CT Ravi’s 25, 563 votes.

Congress candidate from Bellary Rural, B. Nagendra has established a huge lead of 20,163 votes against the state’s Health Minister B. Sriramulu, considered as one of the BJP’s prominent faces for oppressed classes. Sriramulu polled 27,767 votes, while Nagendra secured 47,930 votes.

The BJP leaders had spoken of giving Sriramulu a plum post and also making him the Deputy Chief Minister. Celebratory mood at the Congress office in Bengaluru as the party consolidates its lead of around 119 seats in initial trends in Karnataka election results.

BJP’s Mahesh Tenginkai leads and Congress’s Jagadish Shettar trails in the Hubli-Dharwad Central Assembly constituency, as per ECI. Congress’s BZ Zameer Ahmed Khan is leading on the Chamarajpet seat while BJP candidate and former Bengaluru Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao is trailing.

“We are confident that people’s mandate is with us. We should be able to march ahead with the blessings of the people,” Rao said. BS Yediyurappa’s son, BJP’s BY Vijayendra, is leading from the Shikaripura assembly seat.
