IND vs WI: Ahead of the second ODI versus England at the iconic Lord’s, the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced an 18-member squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against West Indies. The announcement was made on Thursday afternoon and the tweet also mentioned that KL Rahul and Kuldeep Yadav’s inclusion is subject to fitness.

As was expected Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah have been rested for the tour. Virat Kohli has been rested because of a mild groin injury he picked up during the final T20I versus England, and Bumrah as he has been playing non-stop cricket. The BCCI has confirmed that they are very much in the scheme of things for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Rohit Sharma will be leading the side while Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are not in the squad. KL Rahul is back in the fold after being sidelined due to injury last month. However, his inclusion is subject to fitness. Veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has also earned a recall, while leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was not named in the squad.

Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar Yadav, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan are all part of the T20I squad for the upcoming series against West Indies. The five-match T20I series against West Indies will begin on July 29. There will be a three-match ODI series that will be played before the T20Is, beginning July 22. The All-India Senior Selection Committee of the Borad of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Thursday named the squad for the upcoming five-match T20I series against West Indies.

Kuldeep Yadav has also been named in the squad, but his inclusion is also subject to fitness. Express paceman Umran Malik is not a part of the squad while left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh has been named for the T20Is. Earlier, the squad for the ODI series against West Indies was named and the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Jasprit Bumrah were all rested. Veteran opener Shikhar Dhawan will lead the team in the ODIs.

All eyes will be on the performances of youngsters Deepak Hooda, Avesh Khan and Arshdeep Singh, based on opportunities they get, as players try and stake a claim for a place in the squad for the ICC T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia in October-November.KL Rahul’s return from injury will be crucial as India will look to seal its top order spots.
