RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat envisions a “Hindu Rashtra” through unified effort
Bengaluru: Addressing a gathering at PES College, Hoskerehalli, on the occasion of the RSS centenary celebrations, Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), emphasized the importance of societal unity in building a strong Hindu society, reiterating the organization’s long-term vision of a Hindu Rashtra.
Speaking at the Nav Kshitij lecture programme, Bhagwat drew an analogy, saying, “If one can travel from Earth to the Moon in a day with determination, then similarly, if 142 crore people decide collectively, India can become a Hindu Rashtra by tomorrow morning. No one can set a timeframe, but it will happen eventually, and we are working towards that goal.”
He underlined that the primary aim of the RSS is to strengthen and prepare Hindu society. “We are preparing the Hindu society; building a strong Hindu society is our goal,” he said, emphasizing societal cohesion over political engagement.
Bhagwat clarified that the RSS is inclusive of all religions and castes, but everyone in the organization must work as children of Bharat and as Hindus. “The organization does not act on the basis of caste or religion. Our stance on Hindustan and the concept of a Hindu nation will never change,” he added.
On political neutrality, he stated, “All doors of political parties were closed for our volunteers, which is why some joined the BJP. We do not engage in politics; we support national policy but not political agendas.” Drawing a metaphor from history, he referred to Manipur border disputes, saying, “Just as a border line was drawn with a pen, India’s borders exist naturally. Misinterpretations by some do not change that reality.”
Bhagwat also addressed the challenges of caste and minority politics, stressing the importance of eradicating social inequalities: “Politicians divide people by caste, but why shouldn’t we all be treated as one? Caste-based reservation must continue where necessary, but social inequality and untouchability must first be eradicated.”
The lecture reiterated RSS’s ideological emphasis on cultural unity, nation-building, and preparation of the Hindu society, while maintaining an inclusive approach for volunteers of all faiths under the umbrella of Bharat Mata.
