IMD issued heavy rainfall alert in these states next 3 days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday (August 8, 2022) predicted heavy rainfall in several parts of India. As heavy rains is likely to continue over the Central and Southern parts of India, IMD has issued orange and red alerts for various districts. A low-pressure area, which formed on Saturday, concentrated into a well-marked system over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the coasts of Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh, IMD said. It is expected to intensify into a depression during the next 48 hours and move northwestwards across Odisha and Chhattisgarh, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre explained.

Heavy rain continues to wreak havoc in many states such as Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Delhi-NCR. “Intense wet spell likely over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Vidharbha, Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra and Telangana during next 2-3 days,” said IMD in its latest weather forecast.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls occurred at isolated places over Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Konkan and Goa and Odisha. Currently, heavy rainfall coupled with strong winds have lashed Mumbai and its suburbs on Tuesday morning, leading to inundation in some low-lying areas, civic officials said.

On Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had issued an ‘orange’ alert for Mumbai, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places. The city started witnessing heavy rains from Monday midnight, and the intensity increased early Tuesday morning with strong winds, according to some citizens.

Some low-lying areas like the Andheri subway were submerged, forcing authorities to divert the traffic through alternate routes, civic officials said. The MeT office has forecast moderate to heavy rainfall in the city and suburbs with a possibility of very heavy to extremely showers at isolated places in the next 24 hours.

Speaking about other states, IMD has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat Region, Tamil Nadu, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka and heavy rainfall at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Rajasthan, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Saurashtra & Kutch, Telangana, Kerala, Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam.
