States along the eastern coast are on alert following the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warning of heavy rains, gusty winds and rough sea over the next few days. Maximum temperatures above 45°C are likely in isolated places of West Rajasthan. Maximum temperatures may cross 40°C over isolated places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh.

Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and Telangana. Heatwave conditions are possible over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Saurashtra and Kutch.

Friday (May 12)

Isolated rainfall with a chance of lightning is expected over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Odisha, Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and Coastal Karnataka. Snowfall is possible over higher altitudes of Ladakh. Maximum temperatures above 45°C are likely at isolated places in West Rajasthan.

Maximum temperatures above 40°C may occur at isolated places in Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand. Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, East Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Saurashtra, Kutch, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.

Heatwave conditions may prevail over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Gangetic West Bengal, Saurashtra and Kutch. Cyclone Mocha will likely move north-northwestwards and gradually intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm (SCS) around the midnight of May 11 (today). Thereafter, it is likely to recurve gradually to move north-northeastwards from the morning of May 12 and intensify further into a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm (VSCS) around the evening of May 12 over the Central Bay of Bengal.
