“Coastal Karnataka and hilly Nadu are likely to witness 50-60% additional summer showers, while interior districts like Bengaluru are expected to witness 30-40% pre-monsoon rainfall. “Due to these showers, temperatures will remain relatively normal over south-interior Karnataka, though it will be hot during the day,” the IMD forecast said.

The hot and dry weather we witnessed throughout February is expected to intensify over the northeastern districts of Karnataka, with the mercury rising to 43 to 45 degrees Celsius in March. However, heat intensity is likely to reduce during April and May and is expected to spread uniformly over the districts of North Karnataka,” the forecast added.

Meteorologists have attributed the weakening conditions and further progress to a neutral pace to extreme heat conditions in Bangalore. CS Patil, Senior Scientist, IMD Bangalore, said that unlike the summer of 2024, Bengaluru and adjoining districts are likely to witness normal to normal temperatures.

Although daytime temperatures are normal, people feel it more because of the heat-island effect in urban pockets. In contrast to normal daytime temperatures, nights are relatively hot due to higher than normal minimum temperatures.

The night temperature is expected to increase by one or two degrees in and around Bengaluru,” he said. The Department of Health and Family Welfare has issued an advisory regarding extreme heat and heat wave conditions, urging people to stay hydrated, wear fully covered clothing and limit outdoor activities during peak hours of the day.
