Diwali Festival: Supreme Court ban firecrackers across the country

This judgment is applicable not only to Delhi but to the entire country. A bench comprising Justices AS Bopanna and MM Sundaresh passed the order after hearing the pleas of the state of Rajasthan seeking a direction to implement earlier orders on bursting of firecrackers.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed all states and Union Territories to comply with its orders not to burst fire crackers containing barium chemical during Diwali and other occasions.

Ban on buying and selling of firecrackers:

Several petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a ban on the sale, purchase and use of firecrackers containing banned chemicals and barium salts in the country. The Supreme Court bench heard the petitions filed by the petitioners from Rajasthan and said that this judgment is applicable to all states and Union Territories of the country.

Order applicable to entire country:

The Supreme court said that our order to ban firecrackers is for the entire country. The court said, “In our earlier order, we have left the issue of total ban on firecrackers to the local government. It has also been asked not to burst firecrackers in health sensitive places like hospitals and to fix time limit for bursting firecrackers.

Delhi-NCR rules are also applicable to the areas of Rajasthan that fall under NCR. That means there is a ban on bursting firecrackers, the court said. On the same occasion, the Supreme Court ordered an immediate stop to the burning of crop waste in the states of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.

In this regard, the Supreme Court has ordered the representatives of Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan states to hold a meeting on Wednesday and take appropriate steps. Preventing pollution is not just the job of the courts. Observing that the level of pollution is increasing in Punjab and other parts of the country due to various reasons like burning of garbage.

The court said that preventing pollution is not only the job of the court, it is everyone’s responsibility. Especially stated that the government has the highest responsibility. The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Punjab government to ban wheat straw burning. We want this (grass burning) to stop. We don’t know how you do it, it’s your job but it has to stop. An order has been issued to do something immediately.
