The term of this commission will end on November 19. It was estimated that the 7th State Pay Commission will report to the Karnataka government in November. But now there is news that the government is going to extend the period of the 7th State Pay Commission by another six months. On September 29, Pay Commission Chairman Sudhakar Rao and a delegation of members met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and discussed various issues.

Since the Finance Minister is also the Chief Minister, there was a discussion about giving the commission report. When Basavaraj Bommai was the Chief Minister of Karnataka during the BJP government, a three-member 7th State Pay Commission was constituted to review the demands of the state government employees and submit a report within a time limit of 6 months regarding the revision of salaries and allowances of the government employees.

An order was issued in this regard on 19/11/2022. In the month of May, the assembly elections in Karnataka were over and the Congress government came to power. The new government has issued an order to extend the deadline for submission of commission report by 6 months from 19/5/2023. This order will remain in force till November 19.

Sudhakar Rao is the Chairman of the 7th State Pay Commission formed by the government of Karnataka. P. B. Ramamurthy, Srikanth B. Vanahalli, Hepsiba Rani Korlapati is in commission. Now there is news that the government is going to extend the period of the commission by 6 months again. In this regard, Karnataka State Government Employees Association President C. S. Shadakshari responded to the media. “Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who had given the 6th pay revision quickly, said that he will get the report this month and hope to implement it soon.”

If the 7th State Pay Commission reports to the government now, about Rs 12,000 to 18,000 crores will be spent annually on wage revision. The period of the Karnataka government Commission, which is already fixing the funds for the guarantee projects, is expected to be extended by another 6 months and the report will be accepted in 2024. The government has already given an interim compensation of 17 per cent of the basic pay with effect from April 1 when the state government employees went on strike.

The government is committed to the revenue collection expected in the budget and the report of the pay commission will be accepted during the next budget for 2024-25. The Pay Commission has already passed an order on the reviewable aspects of Karnataka governmnet. The commission’s report recommendation was prepared by holding a meeting with various unions and employee organizations including the State Government Employees Association, Ministry Employees Association.

But the proposal to expand the report of the commission is ready. According to sources, the Finance Department has prepared a file on the extension of the 7th Pay Commission. The order will be finally published after Chief Minister Siddaramaiah signs it. The commission period is expected to be extended by another six months.
