Ajit Pawar’s Alleged Threat to Voters Sparks Controversy in Maharashtra
Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has come under fire for allegedly threatening voters in the Malegaon area of the Nashik district. While campaigning for the upcoming Malegaon City Council elections, Pawar reportedly told voters that if they voted for his party’s candidates, he would ensure the town receives substantial financial support.
However, if they chose not to vote for his party, they would be denied any financial assistance. The NCP (Nationalist Congress Party) leader, who holds the crucial finance portfolio in the current Maharashtra government, made these comments during his visit to the area for election campaigning on Friday.
“If you choose all 18 NCP candidates, I will make sure there is no shortage of funds for you. If you reject them, I will also reject you. You have the votes, and I have the money,” Pawar allegedly told voters in Malegaon, according to eyewitness reports.
This statement by Pawar has drawn widespread criticism from opposition parties, with accusations of voter intimidation. Shiv Sena-UBT leader Ambadas Danve strongly condemned Pawar’s remarks, saying that such statements amounted to outright threats to the electorate.
“Ajit Pawar is not giving out money from his personal pocket, but from the taxes paid by the common people. What is the Election Commission doing when leaders like Pawar are threatening voters like this?” questioned Danve, highlighting concerns over the misuse of power and resources in the election process.
Ajit Pawar’s comments have sparked a political storm, with calls for an immediate investigation into the matter. His statement also raises ethical questions about the role of money and influence in the electoral process. As the Maharashtra assembly elections loom, such remarks are likely to intensify scrutiny of political campaigning and the use of state resources.
Malegaon is set to vote in the upcoming municipal elections on December 2, and Pawar’s comments have already become a point of contention between the ruling NCP and opposition parties. The Election Commission has yet to comment on the allegations, but the issue is expected to attract considerable attention in the run-up to the elections.
As the controversy continues to unfold, Ajit Pawar’s political opponents are demanding that the Election Commission take swift action to ensure free and fair elections, while the NCP has remained largely silent on the issue, awaiting further developments.
