8th Pay Commission: The Government of India has recently announced the formation of the 8th Pay Commission, which is expected to increase the pay and pension of around 50 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners.
The main basis of salary hike under this commission will be the fitment factor, which will act as a major multiplier to increase the salary of the employees. This commission is a big step towards improving the standard of living of government employees.

The salary hike will be decided by the fitment factor Fitment factor is the most important aspect of salary and pension hike in any pay commission. It is the multiplier used to increase the existing basic pay of the employees. In the 7th Pay Commission, this factor was 2.57, which increased the wages of employees by an average of 23.55.
Now, if media reports are to be believed, this factor may be placed between 2.28 to 2.86 in the in new salary slab, due to which employees are expected to get a 20 to 50 percent hike in salary. For example, if one’s current basic pay is 18,000 and the fitment factor is 2.86, the revised basic pay will be 51,480. This is important math that shapes the future of employees.

It is to be implemented from January 1, 2026:
The 8th Pay Commission recommendations are expected to come into effect from January 1, 2026. This will benefit about 50 lakh central government employees and 65 lakh pensioners. In the 8th pay commission, apart from the salary, various allowances such as DA, HRA, TA, medical, education etc. can be increased. This commission provides financial security to the employees.
