Power Packed Drumstick Leaf Powder for Daily Health Benefits and Easy Home Preparation
A traditional homemade drumstick leaf powder made with curry leaves, spices, and pulses is known for its rich nutrition and simple preparation method that supports overall wellness when added to daily meals in moderate quantity

In many Indian households, traditional food wisdom continues to play a key role in maintaining everyday health. One such age old preparation that is gaining attention again is drumstick leaf powder. Known for its rich nutrient content, this simple homemade mix is often added to hot rice and is believed to support overall wellness when consumed regularly in balanced amounts.
Drumstick leaves have long been valued in home kitchens for their natural nutritional strength. They are commonly used in curries, but turning them into a dry powder makes it easier to store and use daily. When combined with curry leaves and roasted spices, the result becomes a flavourful and nutrient rich mix that can easily fit into regular meals without much effort.
To prepare this powder at home, fresh drumstick leaves and curry leaves are first cleaned thoroughly and dried under shade or gentle air flow until completely moisture free. Once dried, they are lightly roasted in a pan with a small amount of oil until they turn crisp. This step helps enhance both taste and shelf life of the final mixture.
In a separate pan, a blend of ingredients like garlic, dry red chillies, tamarind, sesame seeds, peanuts, chana dal, urad dal, and grated coconut is roasted carefully until each item releases its aroma and turns slightly golden. A pinch of salt is added during the final stage of roasting to balance the taste and bring all flavours together.
After cooling, the roasted spice mixture is ground first into a coarse powder. It is important not to make it too fine, as a slightly grainy texture improves both taste and traditional feel. The same process is followed for the roasted drumstick and curry leaves, which are also ground separately in a coarse form.
Finally, both powders are combined and mixed well to create the drumstick leaf powder. This homemade blend can be stored in an airtight container and used with hot rice and a little ghee or oil. Its earthy flavour and rich ingredients make it a comforting addition to simple meals while also supporting everyday nutrition in a natural way.
