The minister also sent a copy of the same letter to Rajasthan CM Ashok Gehlot. He said that three BJP MPs from Rajasthan have expressed their concern about the possibility of the spread of Covid due to the Bharat Jodo Yatra.The Bharat Jodo Yatra concluded in Rajasthan on Tuesday and entered Haryana on Wednesday. The BJP is acting like this out of fear as they are appalled about the Yatra. The Congress leader questioned whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi was wearing a mask while canvassing in Gujarat. On Tuesday, the Union Health Ministry had urged state governments to send all Covid-19 positive samples for genome sequencing in view of the rise in cases in several countries. Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan, who wrote to states and Union Territories, noted a “sudden surge of cases” in Japan, America, South Korea, Brazil and China.

The government said samples of all Covid positive cases should be sent daily to INSACOG genome sequencing labs mapped with all states and Union Territories. INSACOG is a forum under the Ministry of Health to study and monitor different strains of Covid in India.Given the sudden surge of cases in Japan, America, Republic of Korea, Brazil and China, it is essential to mobilize whole genome sequencing of positive case samples to detect mutations.

The country reported 129 new infections in the last 24 hours and the number of active cases currently stands at 3,408. One death was recorded in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 5,30,677. The number of corona patients is increasing in Chinese hospitals, facing a shortage of medicines. The media reported that cemeteries were also overflowing with coffins.
