Enforcement of Election Code of Conduct: Ban on political activities in temples, other religious places

Bellary: As the Election Code of Conduct is in force for the Karnataka General Assembly Elections-2023, in order to conduct the election peacefully and freely, in the religious places such as temple, Matt, Mandir, Jain Basadis within the jurisdiction of Bellary district and any Community Bhawan, Yathrinivasa Area, Kalyana Mantapa area within its jurisdiction. MH Prakash, Assistant Commissioner of Hindu Religious Charities Department said that political activities cannot be carried out. It is not allowed to give temple rooms, welfare hall, community hall, empty space, temple premises, other religious places for political activities.

Political persons are not allowed to conduct any ceremony, meeting or other political activities in the temple. It is not allowed to organize unnecessary programs and distribute meals by political persons in the premises of the temple. Temple loudspeakers cannot be used for political activities.

On the occasion of elections, political persons are not allowed to visit temples and other religious places within their jurisdiction and conduct meetings and other political activities in the premises. He said that legal action will be taken as per the provisions of the Religious Institutions (Prevention or Misuse) Act, 1988 if the order of the District Election Officer is diverted and allowed for political activities.
