Delhi liquor Scam: ED enquires Arvind Kejriwal’s Personal Assistant

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) summoned Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s personal assistant in connection with the alleged scam over the Delhi liquor policy. He appeared before the ED and his statements are being recorded under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), officials told. This comes weeks after Kejriwal’s name was mentioned in the ED’s charge sheet of the case.

As per the charge sheet, Sameer Mahendru, a liquor businessman and prime accused in the excise policy scam talked with Arvind Kejriwal over a video call. Kejriwal asked Sameer to trust AAP’s communication in-charge Vijay Nair, said the ED.Vijar Nair is one of the accused in the case.

As per the probe agency, Sameer Mahendru and Vijay Nair allegedly conspired with others in the Delhi liquor policy scam. Bibhav Kumar’s questioning is related to the ED’s charges that at least 36 accused, including Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Kumar have “destroyed or used” 170 phones to conceal evidence of “kickbacks” worth thousands of crores of rupees in the alleged scam.

So far, the ED has filed two charge sheets in this case and has arrested a total of nine people. Earlier this month, the ED said the Aam Aadmi Party used the money generated from the alleged Delhi liquor scam for election campaigning in Goa in 2022. “Investigation of the trail of this kickback so far has revealed that part of these funds were used in the election campaign of the AAP,” said the ED in the charge sheet filed in the case.
