Woman Seeks Husband Aadhaar Card from Jail for Daughter Education in Karnataka

A woman in Karnataka has appealed to prison authorities to provide her jailed husband Aadhaar card saying the document is essential for her daughter school admission and academic records.

Belagavi: A woman from Karnataka has appealed to prison authorities to release her jailed husband’s Aadhaar card, saying the document is urgently required for her daughter’s education. She claimed that repeated requests over the years have gone unanswered, leaving her with no option but to seek help publicly.

The woman, Sridevi Prashantagouda Patil from Gadag district, said her husband Prashantagouda Lingabasanagouda Patil has been serving a prison sentence at Hindalga Central Prison since 2014. According to her, his Aadhaar card remains in prison custody and is now required to complete official school documentation for their younger daughter.

She explained that the school has asked for the father’s Aadhaar details as part of the student’s academic records and other mandatory verification procedures. Without the document, she fears her daughter’s education could be affected.

Sridevi said she has visited the prison several times and submitted requests to officials seeking access to the Aadhaar card. However, she alleged that she has not received any meaningful response despite her repeated efforts.

Standing outside the prison, the woman appealed to the authorities with tears in her eyes, urging them to consider her daughter’s future and provide the required document at the earliest. She said the issue is not about her husband but about ensuring that her child is not deprived of educational opportunities because of missing paperwork.

The case has drawn attention to the difficulties faced by families of prisoners when they need access to essential identity documents for educational and administrative purposes.
