Siddaramaiah will complete full term, says yathindra; swamiji warns congress government may fall if power not transferred

Mysuru : Political turbulence within the Karnataka Congress intensified on Thursday as two contrasting voices emerged—one from within Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s family and another from a prominent Lingayat seer—reflecting the ongoing debate over a possible leadership change in the state.

Speaking in Mysuru, Congress MLC Yathindra Siddaramaiah, son of the Chief Minister, firmly expressed confidence that Siddaramaiah would complete his full five-year term. He asserted that his father faced no corruption allegations and had not been involved in any scandal, adding that the Chief Minister enjoyed the support of legislators.

“The high command will take the final call. Until then, responding to speculation is unnecessary,” Yathindra said when asked about pressure from certain groups seeking a change of leadership. He further clarified that there was no indication of a shift in power, emphasising that the Chief Minister had fulfilled all expectations of the party and the public.

Reacting to Adichunchanagiri Seer Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji’s earlier remarks supporting Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar as the next Chief Minister, Yathindra maintained that it was the Congress party—not individuals—who decide leadership. He said he had no knowledge of any “power-sharing agreement” and reiterated that Siddaramaiah would always honour the commitments made to the party high command.

However, in a dramatic counterpoint, Veereshwara Swamiji of Degulahalli Madiwalashwara Mutt in Kittur taluk warned that the Congress government could collapse if the CM’s post was not handed over to D.K. Shivakumar during the second half of the term.

The seer argued that Shivakumar had supported Siddaramaiah during the first term and that failing to transfer power now would make Siddaramaiah appear “untrustworthy” in the eyes of the people. Calling Siddaramaiah “stubborn” and “adamant,” the seer predicted political instability if the leadership transition was delayed further.
