SDPI leader’s outburst triggers sharp counter from MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal

Ramanagara: A video of SDPI leader Maulana Nooruddin launching a scathing verbal attack on former MP Pratap Simha and BJP MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal has gone viral, triggering political outrage in Karnataka.

The remarks were made during a Kannada Rajyotsava programme held near the Ramanagara Railway Station Circle, where Maulana Nooruddin addressed the gathering with sharp comments targeting the two BJP leaders.

According to the viral video, Maulana Nooruddin labelled MLA Yatnal a “terrorist” and used derogatory language against former MP Pratap Simha. Escalating his attack further, he claimed that if not for Tipu Sultan, Pratap Simha would have been “washing the Britishers’ dogs,” a remark that sparked immediate backlash from BJP leaders and supporters.

His comments have also drawn criticism for invoking religious and historical sentiments to target political opponents.

Yatnal hits back with a fierce counter

Reacting strongly to Nooruddin’s remarks, MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal issued a blistering statement, calling those who support Tipu Sultan “traitors to the nation.” Yatnal alleged that during Tipu Sultan’s reign, lakhs of Hindus were massacred, and over 3,500 temples across Karnataka and Kerala were destroyed.

He further claimed that Tipu carried out mass atrocities against the Kodava community and attempted to impose Islamic rule, which he said was rejected by the people.

“Tipu was no role model for us. He was a betrayer of Hindu dharma. We do not need lessons from someone who tried to force Islamisation and failed,” Yatnal declared, asserting that celebrating Tipu Sultan amounted to glorifying tyranny and violence.

Yatnal also invoked the recent blast in Delhi, criticising Muslim leaders and clerics for allegedly not condemning the incident. He accused them of engaging only in peace gatherings and symbolic gestures without standing up against extremist acts.

“If anything happens, Siddaramaiah is the first to speak for them. Dr. Ambedkar himself wrote that their loyalty lies more with their religion than the nation,” Yatnal claimed, intensifying the political and communal debate.

The war of words has added fresh fuel to communal tensions in the state, with both sides exchanging sharp reactions. The viral video and the subsequent counterattack have now become a focal point of political discussion across Karnataka, raising concerns about hate speech, communal rhetoric, and escalating political hostility.
