Puttige Mutt seer clarified over Bharat Bhagyavidhata title on PM Modi amid social media debate
Udupi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently visited the Puttige Krishna Math, where the Mutt’s head conferred upon him the title of “Bharat Bhagyavidhata” in recognition of his contributions to the nation.
The gesture, however, has sparked debate and criticism on social media platforms, prompting Puttige Sugunendra Swamiji to issue a clarification. Addressing the controversy, Sugunendra Swamiji said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has illuminated India’s destiny. We even consulted legal experts regarding the appropriateness of this title.
It is fully applicable to him. His contributions to the nation are significant.” Swamiji further elaborated, “Under his leadership, the Ram Mandir construction progressed, Kashmir’s issues were addressed, terrorists were countered effectively, and the country’s security and economy strengthened. Globally, he has been recognized as a world leader.
India’s dignity has increased under his leadership. For these reasons, we chose to confer the Bharat Bhagyavidhata title on him.”The ceremony took place on October 28, during Modi’s visit to the Krishna Math. He participated in Lakshakanta Geetha chanting, and the Mutt presented him with the honorary title along with a silver kadagolu (traditional ceremonial item) as a mark of respect.
Prior to this, Modi also visited the Krishna shrine, offered flowers to Kanakadasa, and inaugurated the Suvarna Teertha Mantapa and golden Kavach dedicated to Kanaka.
The title has generated questions and debate online, with many asking what Bharat Bhagyavidhata signifies and why it was awarded to the Prime Minister.
The Puttige Mutt clarified that the title recognizes Modi’s pivotal role in enhancing India’s global stature and safeguarding national interests. This recognition, according to the Mutt, reflects Modi’s contributions to national development, security, and cultural heritage, underscoring his impact on India’s progress and global image.
