Minor girl’ offerning Namaz after , fasting for month ; Parents allegation

Chikkamagaluru : A sensitive case involving an interfaith relationship between two minors has triggered tension in Chikkamagaluru district, with police registering a case under the POCSO Act and probing allegations from both sides.
The incident was reported from Bilagula village in Mudigere taluk, where a Class 10 girl was allegedly in a relationship with a second-year PUC boy. According to the girl’s family, she had been observing Ramzan practices at home, including fasting and offering namaz, reportedly at the boy’s insistence. They claimed she avoided visiting temples and instead followed the religious practices suggested by him.
The issue came to light after tensions escalated between the two families and local groups. A few days ago, complaints and counter-complaints were filed at the Mudigere Police Station. The boy alleged that he was assaulted by members of a right-wing group, while the girl’s parents filed a complaint against him, leading to the registration of a case under the POCSO Act.
Family members of the girl further alleged that the boy had pressured her to convert before marriage and had threatened harm to her parents if she did not comply. These claims are now part of the ongoing police investigation. The girl’s father had reportedly approached local activists seeking intervention, which further intensified the situation.
Meanwhile, members of certain Hindu organisations have expressed dissatisfaction over what they claim is a lack of prompt police action against the boy, despite the POCSO case being registered. They also alleged that the boy posted provocative messages on social media platforms, claiming that no one could harm him.
Police officials have maintained that the case is being handled with due sensitivity, given that both individuals involved are minors. They said statements are being recorded, and all angles—including allegations of coercion, assault, and intimidation—are being examined.
Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information, as the matter involves minors and could potentially disturb communal harmony in the region. Further action will be taken based on evidence gathered during the investigation.
