Karnataka’s Kannada Rajyotsava Celebrated in Pahalgam, Kashmir Amidst Memories of Terror Attack

Bengaluru: The picturesque region of Kashmir, often referred to as “heaven on earth,” has long been a jewel of India, and its significance was further underscored on November 22, 2025, when the state of Karnataka celebrated its Kannada Rajyotsava in the heart of the beautiful yet historically troubled region.

This time, however, the celebration took place against the shadow of the 2025 Pahalgam terrorist attack, which left a deep scar on the region. On April 22, 2025, in the serene meadows of Pahalgam, a place once known for its tranquility and beauty, terrorists wreaked havoc, taking the lives of 26 innocent tourists.

The picturesque Pahalgam, often called a paradise for travelers, witnessed a gruesome assault when armed assailants targeted Indian visitors, shooting them at close range. The once vibrant land, filled with the lush green landscapes and the cheerful voices of tourists, was stained with blood. It was a moment that not only shocked the nation but also instilled fear in the hearts of potential visitors to the region.

However, on the anniversary of this horrific event, the spirit of resilience and defiance took center stage in Pahalgam. In an effort to combat the fear instilled by the terrorist attack, the Jammu and Kashmir Border Administration (JBA) officials and the Kashmiri Employees Welfare Association came together to commemorate Karnataka’s Kannada Rajyotsava in an extraordinary and historical manner.

Despite the chilling memories of the attack, the celebrations commenced with great fervor, beginning with the soulful rendition of Karnataka’s state anthem. Among the attendees were notable figures like Bharat Bhushan and Manjunath Rao, who paid tribute to the martyrs who lost their lives in the attack. A poignant moment followed when all participants stood in silence for a minute, honoring the fallen.

The celebrations were held amidst freezing temperatures, with the mercury dipping to minus 4 degrees Celsius, but the warmth of Kannada pride was evident in the hearts of over 400 JBA workers and locals who attended.

A blend of cultural performances, including traditional Yakshagana dance and Dholu Kunitha, filled the air with Karnataka’s vibrant spirit. Despite the cold, Kannada songs such as “Huttidare Kannada Naa, Huttidare Kannada Naa” were sung, evoking a deep sense of belonging to the land of Karnataka.

The event also witnessed performances by the famous singer Anuradha Bhat, who sang the anthem “Huttidare Kannada Naa,” a song that resonated with everyone present. Local police and the army provided full security arrangements, ensuring that the event went smoothly despite the political and security concerns in the region.

This celebration of Karnataka’s Rajyotsava in Kashmir not only represented the unbreakable spirit of Karnataka’s people but also symbolized solidarity and unity amidst the turbulent times the region has witnessed.

In a time when tourism to Kashmir has been severely affected by the ongoing violence and unrest, this event was a reminder of the unity and resilience that India stands for. The Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations in Pahalgam became a poignant symbol of overcoming adversity, as Karnataka’s culture and heritage echoed across the valley, proving that even in the face of terror, the spirit of unity and culture prevails.

As the day concluded, the Kannada flag fluttered proudly in Pahalgam, symbolizing Karnataka’s unshakable pride in its language, culture, and people, even in the shadow of tragedy.
