Karnataka is witnessing stronger monsoon activity today, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds expected across coastal and interior districts.

The monsoon has picked up pace again across several parts of Karnataka, particularly along the coastal belt and Malnad region. The India Meteorological Department has warned of heavy rain, thunderstorms, lightning and strong surface winds in parts of the state today, August 13.
The coastal Karnataka region is expected to see heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and strong winds. Similar weather activity is also forecast in parts of South Interior Karnataka, while North Interior Karnataka may experience thunderstorms and gusty winds.
Five districts have been placed under yellow alert according to the forecast shared in the report. These include Uttara Kannada, Udupi, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru and Belagavi.
Rainfall in these areas could be accompanied by winds reaching around 30 to 50 kmph. Residents in areas prone to waterlogging, fallen trees or other rain related disruptions may need to remain cautious during periods of intense weather.
Coastal Karnataka is likely to remain particularly active. Udupi and Uttara Kannada could receive spells of heavy rain, while cloudy conditions and showers are expected across other parts of the coastal region. The IMD has specifically listed heavy rain, lightning and strong surface winds for Coastal Karnataka on August 13.
The weather is not limited to the coast. Parts of Shivamogga and Chikkamagaluru in the Malnad region are also expected to experience rain and gusty winds. Belagavi and other parts of North Interior Karnataka could see thunderstorms and strong surface winds as well.
Bengaluru is also likely to remain cloudy, with light to moderate rain possible in several areas. The city may experience periods of gusty surface winds, although the intensity of rainfall can vary from one locality to another.
Other districts across South Interior Karnataka, including Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Tumakuru, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara and Chamarajanagar, may also receive light to moderate showers. The IMD forecast indicates that South Interior Karnataka is among the regions facing heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds today.
People travelling through coastal and Malnad areas should keep an eye on local weather updates, especially during thunderstorms. Strong winds can also affect road travel and outdoor activities.
