Governor Orders Probe into Alleged Irregularities at Karnataka Janapada University

Haveri: The Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot has ordered an inquiry into alleged irregularities at Karnataka Janapada University, located near Gotagodi in Shiggaon taluk of Haveri district. The probe will be conducted under the leadership of retired Justice Umesh Adiga.
The decision follows allegations by several organisations claiming administrative and financial irregularities at the university. The Governor has reportedly directed an investigation not only into Janapada University but also into irregularities in four universities across the state.
Organisations that had been raising concerns about the university welcomed the Governor’s move. Dr. Shivasomappa Nittur, president of the State Janapada Postgraduate and Research Scholars’ Federation, said the inquiry would help bring out the truth.
“The Governor has ordered an investigation into irregularities in Janapada University under the leadership of retired Justice Umesh Adiga. We welcome this decision and hope justice will be delivered. If we do not get justice, we will resume our protest,” he warned.
However, university authorities have strongly denied the allegations. Speaking to the media, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bhaskar said the institution has been functioning effectively despite various challenges since its inception.
“Karnataka Janapada University is one of the rare universities of its kind in the world. Since its establishment, it has worked efficiently despite limitations. Some organisations are misusing the Governor’s order for their own purposes,” he said.
He clarified that the Governor has not ordered an inquiry into the permanent recruitment process at the university, as alleged by some groups. “Certain individuals are spreading misinformation in the media regarding appointments. The inquiry pertains to issues such as the 2018 outsourced security staff tender and distribution of laptops to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe students. These matters are being examined as per procedure,” he stated.
Prof. Bhaskar also alleged that certain organisations were attempting to tarnish the image of the university. “Some groups are misleading media representatives and trying to create a negative impression. We will take legal action against those who spread false information,” he added.
Assistant Registrar Shahjahan Mudakavi also refuted allegations related to mark sheets, stating that higher education department officials had verified their authenticity. “Despite official confirmation that the documents are genuine, some individuals continue to spread false information for vested interests. This appears to be a conspiracy driven by monetary motives,” he alleged.
The inquiry is expected to examine the allegations in detail and submit its findings to the Governor.
