Bengaluru: In a sharp of the current Congress-led government in Karnataka, Opposition Leader R. Ashok accused the ruling party of being deeply mired in corruption, claiming that “60% of the government is involved in corrupt practices.
“Ashok, a senior BJP leader, expressed his dissatisfaction with the internal power struggle within the Congress, particularly between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM DK Shivakumar, stating that “for the last two years, there has been a constant fight for power, with reports of MLAs being bought over due to the ongoing conflict.”
Speaking to reporters, Ashok further alleged that the government is involved in widespread bribery, saying, “Every transaction in the state is subject to a 60% commission. This is the level of corruption that we are dealing with.”
He criticized the Congress leadership, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge, who he claimed has no real power within the party. “Kharge is merely a figurehead. The real power lies with the Gandhi family,” he said, adding that Kharge had “forgotten” he was the president of the Congress.
Ashok also raised concerns about the Congress’s internal battles, accusing the party of buying its own legislators. “I have never seen such a practice in Congress, where their own MLAs are being bought. There is a market for MLAs, with offers ranging from ₹60 to ₹100 crore, along with cars and flats being given as gifts,” he said, questioning the integrity of the Congress government.
The BJP leader also pointed out that the government’s attention is focused on internal power struggles rather than addressing critical issues like farmer suicides. “Over 2,000 farmers have committed suicide, and the government has done nothing to help.
They have not released any funds for flood-affected areas or for sugarcane farmers. We are organizing protests across the state on November 27-28 and December 1-2,” Ashok added.
