BJP MLC Vishwanath Accuses CM Siddaramaiah of Betraying Power-Sharing Promise

Bengaluru ; Power-sharing within the Congress government has once again come under the spotlight, with BJP MLC H. Vishwanath launching a fierce attack on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. Addressing a press conference, Vishwanath alleged that Siddaramaiah is reneging on a solemn promise made to Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.

Vishwanath claimed that during a crucial meeting at Karnataka Bhavan in New Delhi, Siddaramaiah placed his hand on the heads of D.K. Shivakumar and his brother D.K. Suresh, swearing to honor a power-sharing arrangement mediated by the party high command. “This was a sacred vow witnessed by only a few. Siddaramaiah must not become a betrayer of his word,” he charged.

Highlighting Shivakumar’s role in bringing the Congress to power, Vishwanath said, “It was D.K. Shivakumar’s effort that secured 140 seats for the party. Siddaramaiah must respect the commitment he made. Those who break promises never survive in politics. History has shown this.” He drew parallels with past political episodes, including H.D. Kumaraswamy’s alleged breach of promise to B.S. Yediyurappa, warning that betrayal leads to downfall.

Vishwanath also criticized the silence of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) over the ongoing tussle. He urged AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to intervene immediately, stating that the developments were eroding public faith in governance. “Ministers and legislators are being treated with no respect. This is killing democracy and the Constitution,” he said.

Accusing Siddaramaiah of ingratitude, Vishwanath remarked, “The Congress gave him everything — Leader of Opposition, two terms as Chief Minister. Yet he is destroying the very party that elevated him.”

The remarks have intensified political debate in Karnataka, with the BJP seizing the opportunity to target the Congress government over internal rifts and alleged betrayal of commitments.
