Ananth kumar hegde likely to make political comeback, to address Hindu sangam in Bhatkal

Bengaluru : Speculation is mounting over the possible political comeback of former Union Minister and ex-MP Ananth Kumar Hegde, who has largely remained away from active politics and party organisational activities in recent years. Political circles and supporters are closely watching developments, as indications emerge that the senior leader may soon begin his second innings in Karnataka politics.

According to sources, Hegde is scheduled to participate as the keynote speaker at the ‘Hindu Sangam’ event to be held on March 8 in Bhatkal, a region closely associated with his political career. The programme is being seen as a significant platform that could mark his formal return to public and political engagement after a prolonged period of relative silence.

Bhatkal, located in Uttara Kannada district, has historically been a stronghold for Hegde and has played a crucial role in shaping his political identity. Supporters believe that addressing a large gathering in this region could signal his intention to re-enter the political arena and reconnect with grassroots networks. Many of his followers have expressed optimism that the event could serve as a turning point in reviving his political role.

Sources familiar with the developments said that organisers of the Hindu Sangam programme, along with leaders associated with Sangh-affiliated organisations, have held multiple rounds of discussions regarding Hegde’s participation. Senior functionaries are believed to have encouraged him to take a more active role in public affairs and political mobilisation.

Hegde, who represented the Uttara Kannada Lok Sabha constituency multiple times and served as Union Minister of State in the Government of India, had been a prominent voice within the Bharatiya Janata Party. However, in recent years, he had stepped back from active organisational responsibilities, leading to speculation about his future political plans.

Political analysts note that his possible return could influence political dynamics in coastal Karnataka, where he retains a dedicated support base. His re-emergence may also strengthen mobilisation efforts among party workers and supporters in the region ahead of future electoral contests.

While there has been no official confirmation from Hegde or the BJP leadership regarding any formal political role, his scheduled public appearance has generated considerable interest and anticipation among party cadres and observers.

If he formally resumes active politics, it could mark an important development in Karnataka’s evolving political landscape, particularly in Uttara Kannada and neighbouring districts, where his influence remains significant.
