Army colonel injured during parachute training in Ballari, airlifted to Bengaluru

Ballari: An army officer sustained injuries after falling from a height of around 50 feet during a parachute training exercise in the outskirts of Ballari on Friday. The incident occurred in the P.D. Halli area, which has long been used for conducting parachute drills for defence personnel.

According to officials, a total of 417 soldiers participated in the training exercise, jumping from the aircraft with parachutes as part of routine drills. During the descent, one of the participants, identified as Chinnaraj (25), reportedly lost control and fell heavily while landing.

As a result of the impact, he suffered a fracture in his leg. Fellow personnel and authorities immediately rushed him to a nearby hospital in Ballari for first aid and initial treatment.

Considering the severity of the injury, doctors advised shifting him to Bengaluru for advanced medical care. Subsequently, an army helicopter was deployed, which landed at the ITI College ground in Ballari. The injured officer was then airlifted to a military hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment.

Police officials confirmed that parachute training exercises are routinely conducted in the P.D. Halli region due to its suitable terrain. Typically, after completing the jump and landing safely, army personnel are transported back to Bengaluru by bus.

The incident has raised concerns about safety protocols during such high-risk training exercises, although officials maintain that all standard procedures were followed. Further details regarding the condition of the injured officer are awaited.
