The summer vacation for schools is likely to be extended due to extreme heat wave conditions sweeping across the state. There are only 4 days of summer holidays left for the students. Parents and teachers are of the view that children may suffer from health issues due to extreme heat conditions if classes commence on May 16. There is a likelihood that the holidays may be extended for the same reason, it is learnt.

Every year, schools used to reopen for the new academic year on May 29. This year, the education department had decided to cut the number of summer holidays for schools to compensate for the coronavirus pandemic that affected regular school activity during the last two years.

The Department of Education issued an order to accelerate academic activity this year as the two-year academic activity period from Corona has been reduced. But now the heat is exceeding the limit even though it rains all over the state. The maximum temperature recorded in mid-May was recorded in mid-April this year. Temperature has reached high in many districts of Karnataka including Kalburgi, Bidar, Raichur Udupi, Dakshina Kannada and Kolar.
