Ganesh immersion: Govt announced holiday for school, college, govt offices today

Holiday has been declared on Friday to all the government offices and educational institutions in and around twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal-Malkajgiri districts, marking the occasion of Ganesh idols immersion procession. Consequently, a working day will be observed on November 12 this year (second Saturday) in lieu of General Holiday for school, college declared on September 9 (Friday). Together the tri commissionerates will deploy around 25,000 policemen for the security arrangements. The centralized procession will be taken out from the Balapur in the southern end of the city.

And will pass through Chandrayangutta, Falaknuma, Aliabad, Nagulchinta, Shahalibanda, Charminar, Pathergatti, Nayapul, Osman Shahi Road, M J Market, Abids, Gunfoundary, Liberty and end at immersion point at Hussainsagar or Necklace road. Tributary processions will come from Champapet, Santoshnagar, Chanchalguda, Chaderghat, Koti and meet the main procession at M J Market.

Processions from Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, will pass through Bahadurpura, Puranapul, and join the main procession at Nayapul. The processions from Dhoolpet, Mangalhat will pass through Jummerat Bazaar and join the main procession at Afzalgunj or Begum Bazaar and then M J Market. Around 30,000 idols are to be immersed in the Hussainsagar lake during the 10 day festival.

The GHMC and local municipal bodies made arrangements at 31 other small ponds and lakes. Artificial ponds are arranged for the convenience of immersion of idols. The police are taking extra safety measures in the south and west zones of Hyderabad in view of Friday prayers and recent detention of Goshamahal legislator T Raja Singh for allegedly making derogatory comments against Prophet Mohammed and inciting communal flare up in the city.

On Thursday, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police, C V Anand visited the Charminar and inspected the procession routes. Rapid Action Force is deployed near Shahalibanda, Charminar, Siddiamber Bazaar, Begum Bazaar, and Tappachabutra as standby to deal with untoward incidents.
