Uber driver verbally abuses couple over luggage, sparks social media debate
Bengaluru, Another incident involving a cab driver in Bengaluru has gone viral on social media, highlighting the ongoing challenges faced by commuters using app-based taxi services. A Bengaluru-based couple recently reported that an Uber Go driver verbally abused them over their luggage while returning from a vacation in Varkala, near Agara Lake. The incident has since been widely shared on Reddit and other platforms, generating significant discussion.
According to the couple, the Uber Go driver refused to let them board the car with their suitcases, citing a policy that allegedly prohibits large luggage in Uber Go vehicles. “We were unaware of any such rule and asked him when it was implemented. He refused and insisted we cancel the ride,” the couple said. Frustrated, the driver reportedly used abusive language and allegedly attempted to threaten them physically. The couple also recorded a video of the incident.
The couple has filed a police complaint with evidence, but they claim that no action has been taken so far, and no updates have been provided regarding the case. The post has attracted numerous comments from users who shared similar experiences. One user noted that Uber Go vehicles are usually small and carrying luggage can be difficult, which is why they prefer booking an Uber Sedan for trips involving larger baggage.
This incident underscores the ongoing friction between passengers and cab drivers in Bengaluru, particularly over ride policies, vehicle types, and luggage rules. Social media continues to play a role in bringing such issues to public attention and pressing authorities to ensure passenger safety and accountability.
