Haveri Accident: A devastating road accident on National Highway 48 near Kakol village in Ranebennur taluk claimed the lives of three individuals and left 20 others injured. The incident occurred when a Tata Ace vehicle rammed into a stationary tractor-trailer parked by the roadside without rear lights, making it nearly invisible in the dark.
The deceased have been identified as Chamansab Kerimattihalli (65), Mabusab Doddagubbi (65), and Ningamma Jigaler (70)—all residents of Malebennur in Davanagere district. According to police sources, the victims were returning home after attending a program when the accident occurred.
Sequence of Events
The Tata Ace vehicle, reportedly traveling at high speed, failed to spot the unlit trailer in time and collided with it head-on. The impact was severe, resulting in the immediate death of three passengers and minor injuries to 20 others. The injured were promptly shifted to Ranebennur Taluk Hospital via ambulance for treatment.
Police Investigation Underway
Ranebennur Rural Police visited the scene and conducted a preliminary investigation. Officials noted that the absence of rear lights on the parked trailer was a major contributing factor to the accident. Authorities are now probing whether the trailer was parked legally and if safety protocols were violated.
