SIT Appoints Senior IPS Officer for Lead Sowjanya Case Reinvestigation

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Sowjanya rape and murder case has taken a significant step by appointing senior IPS officer Lokesh B. Jagalaskar as the lead investigating officer. SIT Appoints Senior IPS Officer for Sowjanya Case Reinvestigation.

SIT Chief N. Shashikumar has appointed Lokesh B. Jagalaskar as the Investigating Officer for the case. The decision was reportedly taken during a recent SIT meeting, considering the sensitivity and seriousness of the case.

Senior IPS Officer to Lead Investigation:

Along with Lokesh B. Jagalaskar, ACP Manoj Kumar Naik has been appointed as the Assistant Investigating Officer. The investigation will now be led by a senior IPS officer with support from a Karnataka State Police Service (KSPS) officer, strengthening the SIT’s efforts to conduct a thorough and professional probe.

Lokesh B. Jagalaskar is a senior IPS officer who has previously served as the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Bagalkot and Dharwad, and later as the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in Bengaluru. He is currently serving as an SP in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

The Supreme Court had also emphasized the need to include technically proficient officers in the SIT. Jagalaskar, who is an engineer by qualification, is known for his expertise in investigative technology and modern policing techniques.

He earlier led the investigation into a Rs 7-crore robbery case in Bengaluru, where the police team successfully recovered the entire stolen amount within just two days, earning recognition for its swift and effective investigation.
