At least 12 passengers were injured after a Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus lost control and plunged into a deep gorge near Mastihalla in Devimane Ghat, Kumta taluk of Karnataka’s Uttara Kannada district, on Thursday night. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported despite the severity of the accident.
The bus was travelling from Bagalkot to Dharmasthala via Sirsi when the mishap occurred. According to preliminary information, the driver lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a sharp bend near Mastihalla, causing the bus to veer off the road and tumble into the gorge.
All 12 injured passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries, while the bus driver escaped the accident unharmed. Soon after receiving information about the incident, Kumta Police Station PSI Khader and his team rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
With the assistance of local residents, the injured passengers were safely evacuated from the gorge and shifted to the Kumta Government Hospital for further treatment. A case has been registered at the Kumta Police Station, and an investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway.
